Dr. Keanan Augereau

Keanan is originally from Florida. He completed University in Montreal and Medical School in Cork, Ireland. He completed his residency in Family Medicine in Victoria in 2018. He fell in love with providing maternity care during his training at BC Women’s Hospital’s FIR (Families In Recovery) Unit, where he witnessed the transformative experience of birth in the lives of mothers suffering from problematic substance use. He carries forward this passionate and caring approach into his practice today, alongside the detail of evidence-based medical practices. He looks forward to providing this balanced care to your maternity experience!

In his free time, Keanan plays double bass in the Cowichan Consort Orchestra, and enjoys biking, hiking and swimming in the great outdoors of the Cowichan Valley!

Dr. Meghan Chabot

Meghan has been part of the Maternity Clinic team since 2013. She completed her Medical Degree at UBC and subsequently did her Family Practice residency training in Victoria. Following this, she returned home to the Cowichan Valley to practice and found a love of maternity care at the Cowichan Maternity Clinic. 

Outside of medicine, Meghan enjoys spending time with her family.  Being a mom of two young children, she realizes the impact great maternity care has on women and their familes.  Meghan is honoured to be part of the Maternity Clinic team that strives to provide compassionate and quality care to women in the Cowichan Valley.

Dr. Carly Fletcher

Carly has been filling in as a semi-regular locum in the clinic since 2017. She splits her time between family practice with obstetrics and emergency medicine. She works in Duncan, Nanaimo and Port Alberni. Carly did her Medical Degree at UBC (Victoria Campus) and then Family Practice residency in Medicine Hat, Alberta.

She and her husband grew up in Vancouver, and were happy to come back to the ocean and mountains as she likes to spend her non-working time playing outside – biking, skiing, surfing, or you might find her indoors playing squash.

She feels really lucky to be part of this team, and looks forward to meeting you!

Dr. Ryan Gallagher

Ryan has enjoyed being a part of the Maternity Clinic team since 2014. He completed his undergraduate degree at Queen’s University and his Medical Degree at the University of Alberta. After this he did his residency training in Victoria and practiced maternity there after graduating. He has always had a love for the full spectrum of family practice and finds it a privilege to be a part of peoples maternity journey.

It was a special experience for Ryan and his family to be patients of the Maternity Clinic for both of their children. Outside of work Ryan enjoys adventuring with his family in any medium you can use to move in the outdoors (kayak, bike, run, hike, ski… )

Dr. Bridget Henderson

Bridget has been with the Cowichan Maternity Clinic since 2018.  She grew up in Duncan, and then left for many years to wander the province working in Engineering in Pulp and Paper.  She then attended Medical School and residency in Prince George and was very excited when the opportunity arose to return to the Cowichan Valley to continue practicing medicine.

She leads a busy life with four children and when she finds time, enjoys attending dance classes.  She is thrilled to be working with the Cowichan Maternity Clinic and sharing such an important and memorable time with her patients and their families.  Plus the babies are really cute!

Lisa Horvath

Lisa has lived in the Cowichan Valley for 29 years.  She has had many jobs and titles over the years, working as a  bookkeeper at Uncle Albert’s Home Furnishings and at Cowichan Bay Waterworks.  She enjoyed working as an Medical Office Assistant in a Family Practice clinic in Duncan and as a manager at Cowichan Paediatrics. 

Being a part of the Cowichan Maternity Clinic team is a rewarding job.  “We are a team.  We all work together to bring the best possible experience to new moms and dads.”  She thoroughly enjoys meeting patients at the beginning of their pregnancy and throughout their postpartum journey.  It is indeed an honour to help guide mom’s through this precious time in their life.

When not working, Lisa enjoys reading, baking and spending time with her family and grandson.

Dr. Maki Ikemura

Maki grew up in Alberta and did her Medical Studies there, then moved to Quebec to do her Family Medicine residency at McGill, mostly so that she could spend a few years living in Montreal and eating bagels. She has always had a passion for working with and learning from underserved and marginalized communities – new immigrants in Montreal, and remote Inuit and First Nations communities in Quebec and BC. Maki and her partner and their young family moved to the Cowichan Valley in 2007.  She joined the Maternity Clinic shortly after it started, and loves working with great colleagues and staff in the clinic and on the maternity ward. She feels privileged to be part of families pregnancy journeys.

She appreciates the opportunity to bring outreach prenatal care to the Penelakut nation and enjoys volunteering with the House of Friendship Healthiest Babies Possible program.

Off work, Maki can be found cooking and making music with her three teenage kids, skiing, camping, backpacking and hanging out at the lake with her family.

Julie Kostyk RD

Julie has been offering nutrition care and advice to maternity patients at the Cowichan Maternity Clinic since 2013.  She completed her Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Nutritional Science from the University of Alberta in 2004 and went on to complete her dietetic internship with Alberta Health Services in 2005.  In addition to providing nutrition advice to pregnant women, Julie is also knowledgeable on the nutritional needs of infants and children.

In her free time, you will likely find Julie cooking in her kitchen, digging in her garden, or enjoying walks with her husband and two dogs.  Julie has also enjoyed being a patient of the Cowichan Maternity Clinic herself.

Dr. Kate MacDonald

Kate has been with the Maternity Clinic since 2015. She grew up in rural Alberta but moved to Vancouver Island for university and fell in love with the coast. She did her Medical Degree at UBC (Prince George campus) and her Family Practice residency in Chilliwack. She was lucky to spend time during her medical training in Duncan and realized it was a special community that she wanted to return to when she was done her training. She feels honoured to be part of such a great team, both within the clinic and on the maternity ward. She loves working with families and being a part of such a transformative time in families lives.

While not in the Maternity Clinic, she has a Family Practice at the Somenos Medical Clinic and can be found chasing her two young kids. She enjoys spending time with her family and being outdoors hiking.

Paula Ramwell RN

Paula grew up in the Cowichan Valley and has been working as a Registered Nurse since 1993. She specialized in Obstetrical Nursing and has worked as a Labour and Delivery nurse for most of her nursing career.

Paula joined the Cowichan Maternity Clinic in 2014 and  has enjoyed working with women and their families and supporting them through pregnancy and the transition into parenthood .

Paula lives with her husband and daughter . When not working Paula enjoys being outdoors cycling, hiking and spending time with family and friends. 

Dr. Donna Wachowich

Donna has been a member of the Cowichan Maternity Clinic since 2016. A graduate of the University of Alberta Medical school, she completed her Family Medicine residency at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Donna is passionate about maternity care and has an extensive background of family practice experience in Ontario, Alberta and now, in her “semi-retirement,” on Vancouver Island.

When not at the Cowichan Maternity Clinic or covering physician vacation leaves, Donna enjoys hiking, curling, traveling, cooking, knitting and relaxing with family and friends.

Dr. Maggie Watt

Maggie grew up in Vancouver and completed her Medical Degree at UBC and her Family Practice residency program at Dalhousie University.  On her return from the Maritimes in 1999, she moved with her husband to Duncan and has been practicing at Festubert Family Practice ever since. She has been doing obstetrical care in the valley since her arrival in 1999.  She, along with several colleagues, started the Cowichan Maternity Clinic in 2011 and Maggie continues as Physician Lead for the clinic.

Maggie delivered all 3 of her boys at Cowichan District Hospital and has always loved working with the wonderful team here.  It is her favourite ward in the hospital.  She continues to enjoy teaching medical students in the clinic and on the ward and showing them the wonderful world of GP obstetrics.
